The visa of permanent residence is of federal competency. There are several ways to obtain permanent residence to Canada: immigration to Canada as business people, as a skilled worker with a post-secondary education with some years of work experience, family sponsorship, your application for asylum to Canada  has been accepted or have a work permit or study permit valid for minimum of two years.

Federal Canada attracts immigrants who speak particularly English. The federal policy supports the learning process of the French language by multiple programs, among which, French immersion. Once you obtained the visa of Canadian residence, you have the right to live, to work and study in Canada. After having lived three years in Canada, you can make a request to obtain the Canadian citizenship and the Canadian passport. As a Canadian resident, you do not have the right to: work for the Canadian Armed Forces or the Royal Canadian Police and vote.
